  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  1. 1Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. 2In a large bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. 3Transfer apple mixture to a greased 8x8 inch baking dish.
  4. 4In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. 5Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. 6Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  7. 7Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  8. 8Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with ice cream or custard (optional).
